Who is Yusuf Demir?
At just 17-years-old Demir has featured for the Austrian Under-21 side which shows how highly rated the attacking midfielder is within Austrian football — and if his name sounds familiar, you may have seen him when he came off the bench against England Under-21s in European Under-21 Championship Qualification. That was his second appearance for Austria’s Under-21s and has added another capp since.
He first came onto the scene in senior football when he made his debut aged just 16-years-old, in a 3–0 win back in December, 2019. He has since featured in the Europa League and UEFA Champions League qualifying when despite the loss, he scored after coming on with 17 minutes left to play.
Even though Demir made his debut in 2019, the 17-year-old had to wait until after the Coronavirus break from football in 2020 to make his breakthrough into the first-team — featuring in five of Wien’s last nine league games in the 2019/20 season.
However, starts have been hard to come by this season, but he’s slowly working his way into Dietmar Kühbauer’s plans, featuring in 12 of Rapid Wien’s 15 Austrian Bundesliga games and four out their six games in the Europa League this season — and was unavailable for the other two due to getting Coronavirus.
Over the next 4-weeks I’ll be watching Yusuf Demir and updating this piece weekly to provide a detailed scout report.
